The Orient Pear Grows in zones 5 - 8
  • Produces large, smooth, shiny, round yellow fruit with a red cheek and thick skin; the flesh is juicy and creamy with a mild flavor and a fairly fine texture — ideal for eating, canning, desserts, and salads
  • Yields ripe fruit typically in mid-August or mid-September, bearing heavy crops
  • Is known for its beauty
  • Blooms mid- to late season with white flowers
  • Is available in standard and dwarf sizes
  • Requires cross-pollination with Bartlett or another European pear variety (excluding Kieffer) growing within 100' for standard trees and within 20' for dwarf trees
  • Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 350-400 (chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season)
  • Features simple leaves that are glossy green, have fine teeth on the margin and provide golden bronze fall color
  • Grows in an oval, rounded shape
  • Is blight-resistant

This hybrid European pear cultivar is known for its intense beauty and heavy annual crops. The yellow fruit has juicy, melting, creamy flesh with a mild flavor — excellent for canning, desserts, salads and fresh eating. The tree typically produces ripe fruit in mid-August or mid-September.
