...Read MoreRead more about I live in Zones 7-8, and my Zelkovao remove the Silver Maple, I have scheduled same, as the tornado and strong winds and severe storms that stuck my property this summer have me quaking during every storm, in fear the Silver Maple will lose a limb that pierces my roof, etc. I am thankful I planted the Zelkova, as it grew fast and I do not feel it will become a tree to fear in regard to damage from storms. I plan to plant a Zelkova about 12 feet from the spot where the Silver Maple stood. I would recommend a Zelkova that does not come in a pot, but instead is in burlap, as the one my landscape company planted is prone to girdling roots, which I understand are common when trees are potted before planting. I will request a burlap covered root ball on the Zelkova I plan to have planted this fall. Is fall a safe time to plant a Zelkova in Delaware?
