Gopher Tortoise Wood Ornament

The Gopher Tortoise is a friendly face in the Longleaf Pine ecosystem of the American Southeast, welcoming creatures of all kinds into its signature burrows. These underground tunnels dug by the Gopher Tortoise reach 10 feet below ground and can extend up to 30 feet long. As a herbivore, the Gopher Tortoise is a well-behaved host, uninterested in harming its guests. More than 350 different animal and insect species are dependent on Gopher Tortoise burrows as they seek refuge from threats in the forest. The purchase of this ornament from the Arbor Day Foundation can help restore the Gopher Tortoise’s depleted native habitat and support the wildlife community of the Longleaf Pine forests.
