Bare Root or Potted?

Concord is the traditional grape to make grape jelly and juice. It is also used as a table grape and for wine. The vines produce large clusters of medium-sized, slipskin, blue-black grapes that ripen in mid-September.

  • Produces bunches of large, blue-black, seeded grapes with an excellent, distinctive flavor
  • Prefers acidic soil
  • Is self-fertile, but planting more than one vine is recommended for the best crop
  • Should be planted 6'–8' apart using a trellis system
  • Bears fruit in 1 - 3 years

The Concord Grape is a classic American grape variety that was developed in 1849 by Ephraim Wales Bull in Concord, Massachusetts. Bull spent years experimenting with different grape varieties, eventually creating the Concord Grape, which quickly gained popularity due to its flavor and hardiness. The Concord Grape was used for making juice, jelly, and jams, as well as wine, becoming a staple in American agriculture. Today, it continues to be a beloved choice for its rich flavor and versatility in the kitchen, adding both beauty and functionality to gardens and landscapes.

Planting Instructions

Bare-Root Tree

Bare-root trees are shipped without soil around their roots. They are shipped when dormant (sleep state). In this dormant state, deciduous trees may display small buds but not leaves. Roots will come coated in a hydrating gel. Bare-root trees require more attention and care initially to ensure they remain properly watered and protected from extreme weather conditions.

  • Easy to plant at the correct depth
Potted Tree

Potted trees are available in a variety of sizes. Because the roots are packed in soil, the trees do not need to be dormant for shipping. Potted trees often have a more established appearance with leaves and foliage, providing an immediate visual impact on the landscape.
