Bare Root or Potted?

Bluecrop is a highbush blueberry cultivar. It produces all-purpose blueberries that are firm and somewhat tart — great for preserves, baking, freezing and fresh eating. With this shrub, you will harvest as much as 10–20 lbs. of fruit every July. It also provides some nice landscape value with a bloom of white flowers in May and fiery red color in the fall.

  • Produces an abundance of large berries good for preserves, baking, and fresh eating
  • Requires acidic soil
  • Is self-fertile, but the crop is better if cross-pollinated

Wildlife Value

The shrub provides nutrition for bees in early summer. White-tailed deer and eastern cottontails eat the leaves and twigs of this shrub. It also produces one of the most important fruits for wild animals. Some animals that eat these blueberries include: eastern bluebird, northern cardinal, gray catbird, wild turkey, northern mockingbird, brown thrasher, mourning dove, American robin, red fox, eastern cottontail, white-footed mouse, striped skunk and eastern chipmunk.

Planting Instructions

Bare-Root Tree

Bare-root trees are shipped without soil around their roots. They are shipped when dormant (sleep state). In this dormant state, deciduous trees may display small buds but not leaves. Roots will come coated in a hydrating gel. Bare-root trees require more attention and care initially to ensure they remain properly watered and protected from extreme weather conditions.

  • Easy to plant at the correct depth
Potted Tree

Potted trees are available in a variety of sizes. Because the roots are packed in soil, the trees do not need to be dormant for shipping. Potted trees often have a more established appearance with leaves and foliage, providing an immediate visual impact on the landscape.
