History/Lore

In the 1600s, the arbequina olive tree was first planted in Catalonia, a region in northeastern Spain. People liked arbequina olives because they were small, had a nice flavor, and were juicy, so they grew them primarily for eating. Farmers quickly realized, however, that the tree was also useful for making olive oil because it was easy to grow and produced a large number of olives. As a result, they began to plant an increasing number of arbequina olive trees. It is now one of the world's most popular types of olive trees!
