In the western mountain ranges, vast acreages of forests are turning brown as bark beetles spread across the once-green landscape. In the East, the American chestnut was almost annihilated by a fungus from a foreign land. Although dealing with these kinds of epidemics is mostly the purview of professional foresters, urban trees that are attacked by insects and diseases are everyone’s responsibility. We all play a role in stopping the spread of invasive insects and diseases, and this bulletin discusses how to do our part.
